We are located in a World Heritage Area, South Westland National Park, State Highway 6, Franz Josef Glacier, just 2km north of the town centre. The Tatare River runs alongside the motel grounds and provides a soothing background for your relaxing stay. Wake up to the morning chorus of the native tui, bellbird and other tree residents.
Choose from one of our self-contained studios for two guests through to a self-contained 2-bedroom unit for families. Covered parking for your vehicle is directly outside your accommodation in Franz Josef. Guest laundry access and a complimentary booking service is available for all your glacier activities.

About Us
Glacier View Motel has been part of Franz Josef since 1965, welcoming travellers who come to experience the beauty of the West Coast. Our family – the Taylors – has looked after this special spot since 1982, and we love sharing it with visitors from all over the world.
Back in the day, you could see the Franz Josef Glacier right from the motel. These days the glacier has receded, but the views are still breathtaking, with snow-capped peaks and the vista of the Melchior Glacier higher up in the mountains. It's the perfect backdrop for your stay.
We've been part of the South Island motel industry for over 50 years, so hospitality is in our blood. Shelley and Michael (with their youngest daughter Sophia often in tow!) make sure everything runs smoothly, while our friendly team – Peter and Carol Roberts, and Steven Goh – are here to give you a warm welcome and help make your stay relaxed and memorable.
